ECB’s Šimkus: Might Not Have All Information We Need for September Move
30 June 2025

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Gediminas Šimkus said on Monday that the ECB might not have all the information it needed in order to move in September.
In an interview with Reuters, Šimkus, who heads the Bank of Lithuania, said that he did not ‘know if we'll have all the information we need by September, but I remain open to every possibility.’
An interest rate cut, ‘if any’, would be more likely towards the end of the year, he said.
Uncertainty had grown, according to Šimkus, who nonetheless said that the June scenario still held.
‘Nothing has fundamentally changed since June’, he said. ‘The September projections may be fairly similar to June’s, maybe except the euro is even stronger.’
