By Laura Contemori – ROME (Econostream) – UK gilt market participants expressed broad support on Monday for a new 2043 index-linked gilt, while views on a planned September conventional syndication remained preliminary and included possible new 10-year or 20-year gilt issuance.
According to a press release published by the UK Debt Management Office (DMO), Gilt-edged Market Makers (GEMMs) and investors broadly supported the launch of a new 2043 index-linked gilt, while some participants favored reopening existing linker lines including IL 2038 and IL 2041.
For the conventional syndication planned for September 2026, some participants supported launching a new 10-year or 20-year gilt, while others favored reopening existing lines including 5¼% 2041.
Participants also favored new short conventional supply in the July-September period, including possible three-year and five-year gilt launches.
The DMO said it provisionally plans a July 2026 syndication of a new or existing index-linked gilt in the 15- to 20-year sector and a September 2026 syndication of one or more medium- and/or long-dated conventional gilts.
The DMO will publish the July-September 2026 gilt operations calendar on May 29.
