By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – Primož Dolenc took office on Sunday as Governor of Banka Slovenije, the institution said in a press release.

He was appointed by the National Assembly on 3 February 2026 at the proposal of the President of the Republic of Slovenia. At the time, the central bank said he would assume the role once the internal procedures required under the Banka Slovenije Act had been completed.

Dolenc had been leading the central bank as deputy governor for more than a year after former governor Boštjan Vasle stepped down and authorities did not immediately name a successor.

He officially began his mandate on 1 March 2026, thereby also becoming a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council.

Under Slovenian law, the governor serves a six-year term, which can be renewed.
