By Marta Vilar – VALENCIA, Spain (Econostream) – European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos said on Thursday that he had received no indication that ECB President Christine Lagarde plans to leave her post early, stressing that she remains fully committed to her role.

In a panel discussion at the Cámara de Comercio in Valencia, Spain, de Guindos said he had “no indication whatsoever from the ECB president” regarding any potential early departure.

“All I can say is that she is fully focused on her work and, as long as she remains in her position, she will continue to be an excellent president,” he said.

De Guindos described Lagarde’s tenure as “great,” calling her “one of the most elegant individuals in the broadest sense of the word.” He explained that he was referring to her ability to forge broad consensus within the Governing Council, saying she has done “an excellent job” in that respect.

“Regardless of everything else, she remains — and will remain — fully focused on her work,” he said. “She has been an excellent president, and I am convinced she will continue to be so.”
