ECB’s Villeroy: Encouraging Signs on Inflation, But Fight Not Over

18 January 2023

By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member François Villeroy de Galhau on Wednesday said that there were optimistic indications with respect to inflation, but that the ECB’s efforts to regain control were not at an end yet.

In a brief post on LinkedIn Villeroy, who heads Banque de France, said that ‘we have seen encouraging signs in the last two months in France and the euro area with a stabilization or even a downward trend.’

‘We should reach the peak of headline inflation and probably core inflation in the first half of 2023, but this will only be a step, and certainly not the end of the fight against inflation’, he added.
