By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – The Irish government on Tuesday nominated European Central Bank Governing Council member Gabriel Makhlouf for a second term at the head of the Central Bank of Ireland, according to a statement from the Department of Finance.
“The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris TD, announced today that the Government has agreed to nominate Mr. Gabriel Makhlouf for re-appointment by the president as governor of the Central Bank of Ireland,” the statement said.
Makhlouf, who has served as governor of the country’s central bank since 1 September 2019, is set to begin his second term on 1 September 2026.
