By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) - European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde will depart from the ECB before the end of her eight-year term on 31 October of next year, according to the Financial Times on Wednesday.
The FT, citing “a person familiar with her thinking,” said that Lagarde would like to leave before the April 2027 French presidential election so that heads of major euro area governments can decide who will lead the ECB previously.
According to the FT, an ECB spokesperson said, “President Lagarde is totally focused on her mission and has not taken any decision regarding the end of her term.”
