By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Olli Rehn on Tuesday congratulated his fellow Council member Boris Vujčić, governor of the Croatian National Bank, for having gotten the support of the Eurogroup in the contest to succeed ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos.

In a statement on his LinkedIn page, Rehn, who had been one of a total of six contenders and the only other one to make it to the final round of Eurogroup voting on Monday, said, “Congratulations to my highly competent colleague Boris Vujčić and best of success as ECB Vice-President.”

“I want to thank my fellow candidates and the Eurogroup President for the constructive manner in which the process was conducted,” he said. “In these tough times, it is more important than ever that we remain united in Europe.”

De Guindos’ mandate ends at the end of May.
