ECB’s Kažimír: Inflation Target Reached, Need to Remain “Patient”
Peter Kažimír, governor of the Národná banka Slovenska, at the European Central Bank Forum on Central Banking, 27 June 2023 in Sintra, Portugal.

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Peter Kažimír said on Thursday that the 2% inflation target had been reached and that there was no need to rush into more interest rate adjustments.

Speaking in Bratislava, Kažimír, who heads the National Bank of Slovakia, said that “[w]e can say with some pride that we’ve achieved our goal, and now we need to stay patient and determined, ready to act when the time comes.”

In uncertain times, subject to constant changes, standing pat was not “a boring position to be in”, he said.

The ECB had to collect and analyze information and respond only if absolutely necessary, according to Kažimír.
