ECB’s Kažimír: ‘I Would Not Touch Rates Until We Have Much More Clarity’ About Trade
Peter Kažimír, governor of the Národná banka Slovenska, at the European Central Bank Forum on Central Banking, 27 June 2023 in Sintra, Portugal.

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Peter Kažimír said on Tuesday that the ECB should keep rates unchanged until there is more certainty around trade.

In a press conference to present the projections of the National Bank of Slovakia, which he heads, Kažimír said that ‘personally, I would not touch rates until we have much more clarity with respect to the scenarios of the trade wars.’

Kažimír said he was in the camp of those who believed the ECB was now at or around neutral territory.

‘Caution will be in the first place, and evaluation of data as they come and how we see them in the mid-term view’, he said.
