By Laura Contemori – ROME (Econostream) – Italy's Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on Monday mandated a group of six banks for the syndicated launch of a new 12-year Green BTP maturing on October 30, 2038.

MEF appointed Barclays Bank Ireland, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo, J.P. Morgan and Société Générale to lead the transaction, which is expected to be launched in the near future subject to market conditions.

The proceeds from the bond will be allocated to environmentally sustainable expenditures included in the state budget. The ministry said funds raised through Green BTP issuance in 2026 will be directed across all six categories defined in the framework: renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean transport, climate and environmental resilience measures, protection of the environment, water and biodiversity, and environmental research.
