By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said that the ECB had to consolidate all the achievements it had accomplished, adding that her “baseline” was that it would take until the end of her term.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Lagarde said both she and the ECB had achieved a great deal over the years.

“We need to consolidate and make sure that this is really solid and reliable,” she said. “So, my baseline is that it will take until the end of my term.”

However, she declined to comment on a Financial Times report suggesting she could step down early.

Her mission centered on maintaining price and financial stability, safeguarding the euro, and ensuring the currency remained strong and prepared for Europe’s future, she said.

Looking beyond the ECB, she said the World Economic Forum was “one of the many options” she was considering.
