By Marta Vilar – WASHINGTON (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Joachim Nagel said on Friday that there was currently no need for the ECB to act.

Speaking to media on the margins of the IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, Nagel, who heads the Deutsche Bundesbank, said that “[i]n terms of monetary policy, I see no need for action at present.”

German CPI data, slightly higher than the ECB’s 2% target, did not change the “rather favorable” situation of inflation, he said.

He emphasized high food prices and said that this was the reason why the ECB should “remain vigilant.”
