By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Gabriel Makhlouf on Thursday said that disinflation faced risks and that the ECB was prepared to respond to any changes in prospects for inflation or growth.

In a speech at the Institute of International & European Affairs in Dublin, Makhlouf, who heads the Central Bank of Ireland, said, ‘Needless to say, the disinflation process remains subject to risks, and there is a very high degree of uncertainty surrounding the outlook.’

‘We stand ready to react to changes in the outlook, for both inflation and growth, which is why my colleagues and I continue to believe that we should not commit to any specific future path for interest rates’, he continued.
