25 May 2024

By Isabel Teles – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Fabio Panetta on Saturday said that the Governing Council was more or less in agreement to start reducing interest rates.

During a press conference at the G7 finance meeting in Stresa, Italy, Panetta, who heads the Banca d’Italia, said, ‘It seems to me that a fairly general consensus has emerged on the possibility of a rate cut.’

The risks to financial stability had declined and inflation was falling in all major economies, he said.
