ECB’s Elderson: Mindful of the Many Public Health Risks That Still Remain

23 September 2021

By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Executive Board member Frank Elderson on Thursday said the pandemic was being overcome but was for now still ongoing.

Speaking at a conference in Frankfurt, Elderson said that ‘we are indeed making progress in moving closer towards a world after the pandemic’.

‘That being said, we are not there yet, and we are all certainly mindful of the many risks to global public health that currently still remain’, he said.

Elderson, who spoke of climate change in a central banking context, said that ‘unlike the pandemic, we are not even close to start thinking about a world after the climate and environmental crisis. We have barely seen the beginning.’
