Detail

Monetary policy in the Euro Area is managed by the Governing Council of the ECB.  Policy meetings are scheduled to take place 8 times each year at approximately equally spaced intervals.  The meeting is attended by the ECB President, Vice-President and Executive Board (4 members), plus the heads of each of the National Central Banks (NCBs) of the Euro Area.  Voting members rotate each month.

Policy announcements are made at 13:45 CET on the day of the meeting.  There is also a press conference after each policy meeting starting at 14:30 CET.  The ECB also release new staff or Eurosystem macroeconomic forecasts at these meetings on a quarterly basis.

Be aware that the ECB Governing Council also schedules regular non-policy meetings and, on a quarterly basis, the General Council also meet (this is a larger body consisting of the ECB & Vice-President and the heads of all the National Central Banks of all the EU, with the ECB Executive Board, the President of the EU Council and one member of the European Commission also in attendance), but monetary policy is not set at these meetings.
