By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Madis Müller on Friday praised ECB President Christine Lagarde for saying that the central bank’s easing cycle was almost done.

In an interview with Estonian radio Aripaev Radio, Müller, who heads the Eesti Pank, said that Lagarde had ‘summarised it nicely yesterday saying that we have probably almost finished the rate-cutting cycle this time.’

With respect to future steps, Müller said that ‘no one can say anything for certain yet.’

The ECB could be satisfied that inflation was now ‘close’ to 2% and could consider the target almost achieved, he said.

However, the economy was still weak despite it being on the way to recovery, he said.

The ECB now had to deal with ‘more uncertainty than usual’, he said.
