ECB’s Kažimír: Open to Discussing Cutting or Pausing in April, Already at Neutral
25 March 2025

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Peter Kažimír said on Tuesday that he was open with regard to the Council's April policy decision.
In a press conference on the annual report of the National Bank of Slovakia, which he heads, Kažimír said that ‘[t]he April meeting will be very interesting.’
‘You know the market’s expectations, but I have to say that I am open to discussing either further interest rate cuts or holding steady’, he said.
He refused to say which option he favoured and said the ECB had to wait and see what the data suggested.
‘Everyone is eagerly anticipating the numbers for the first quarter, for March, especially on inflation and its composition’, he said. ‘What will matter most to us is services inflation.’
At current levels, interest rates were already in neutral territory, he said.
