By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Joachim Nagel said on Monday that the ECB was not operating mechanistically and that the decision in April resisted prediction.

Speaking at the Berlin School of Economics, Nagel, who heads the Deutsche Bundesbank, said that it was ‘clear that we are not moving on autopilot’ and that it was ‘difficult to speculate’ on the outcome of the Governing Council meeting in April.

Other factors, including potential US tariffs, would be taken into account in the next meeting, he said.

‘It’s important that we look at that at the next meeting, then we will see what we do’, he said.
