ECB’s Stournaras: If Good Inflation News Continues, Will Be Able to Start Cutting Rates After 2Q

By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Yannis Stournaras over the weekend said that monetary policy easing could start after the second quarter, if positive inflation developments continue.

According to Greek daily Kathimerini, Stournaras, who heads the Bank of Greece, told the newspaper, ‘The news is good on the inflation front, and if this trend continues then we will be able to start reducing interest rates after the end of the year’s first half.’
