ECB’s Kazāks: Policy Easing Could Start in Mid-2024
20 December 2023
By Isabel Teles – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Mārtiņš Kazāks on Wednesday said that the ECB could start cutting interest rates in mid-2024.
In an interview with Latvian public broadcaster LSM, Kazāks, who heads Latvijas Banka, said, 'Most likely it [a first rate cut] looks like in the middle of next year — in June or July. But in spring, at the current moment that’s too early.’
‘[The pace of rate cuts] is really dependent on how the economy really behaves and what happens to the economy’, he said.
