ECB’s Lagarde: Inflation Will Get To 2% In 2023

4 November 2023

By Isabel Teles – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde on Saturday said that the ECB’s projections showed inflation converging to the target in 2025.

In an interview with Greek daily Kathimerini, Lagarde said that seeing inflation recede was the ECB’s forecast and goal. ‘We are determined to bring inflation down to 2%. According to our projections we will get there in 2025’, she said.

Asked about the lessons learned from the Greek financial crisis, she said it would be pertinent to have ‘collective discipline to address the lack of a fiscal union.’

‘When you have a monetary union without a fiscal union, as we do, you need clear fiscal guardrails and a fiscal framework within which countries can design and implement their fiscal policies and be accountable to the other members of the monetary union’, she said.
