BBK Board Member Mauderer: German Labour Market Situation Positive, Order Books Full
2 February 2022
By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – There is reason to believe that the German economy is on the verge of picking back up again, Bundesbank board member Sabine Mauderer said Wednesday.
In a speech delivered virtually for the annual reception of one of the German central bank’s regional offices, Mauderer noted that Germany had been particularly affected by the renewed economic slowdown.
‘But there is reason to hope that this is only a damper’, she said. ‘The situation on the labour market is optimistic. … In addition, the order books in industry and construction are well filled.’
There are risks to the outlook, however, she said, citing the pandemic, supply constraints, more expensive energy and intermediate products, and geopolitical tensions.
‘In short, further economic development depends on many factors’, she said.
