ECB’s Schnabel: No Indication of Interest Rate Hikes

20 May 2021

By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – The European Central Bank sees no reason at present for its interest rates to increase, Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel said on Wednesday.

In a interview with German public broadcaster ARD, Schnabel said that monetary authorities ‘expect inflation to fall noticeably again to an estimated 1.2% in the euro area as early as 2022.’

‘For us, this means that we will continue to keep financing conditions favourable in order to support the economy, and there are no signs of interest rates rising at present’, she said.
