Detail
Monetary policy in the US is managed by the Federal Open Market Committee of the Federal Reserve. FOMC policy meetings are scheduled to take place 8 times each year at approximately equally spaced intervals. Each meeting lasts two days, concluding with any policy decisions being published in a statement at 14:00 Eastern time on the 2nd day (normally a Wednesday).
On a quarterly basis (in March, June, September and December), the committee release their Summary of Economic Projections (“SEPs”, their macroeconomic forecasts). At these meetings the FOMC also hold a press conference after the statement is published at 14:30 Eastern time. The FOMC can also theoretically call a press conference after any other meetings if required.
