By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member François Villeroy de Galhau said on Monday that the Banque de France would lower its growth forecasts, although the French economy would still be expected to expand in most of its scenarios.

In an interview with French Radio Classique, Villeroy, who heads the Banque de France, said that the central bank would slash its June GDP projections in light of the conflict in the Middle East.

“The Bank of France will publish several scenarios because there is still so much uncertainty,” he said. “Given the bad surprise in the first quarter, the 2026 growth forecasts will be cut compared to those from March, even if these forecasts will remain positive in most scenarios.”
