By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Gediminas Šimkus said on Monday that when it came to making decisions regarding interest rates, things were “rather clear,” given inflation close to the 2% target and the recovery of economic growth.

Speaking in Vilnius, Šimkus, who heads the Bank of Lithuania, said that both headline and core inflation were “now and in the near future, and mid-term, close to the 2% level.”

The level of interest rates was “seen by many as at a neutral level,” he said, adding that economic growth had recovered but was still weak.
