By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member François Villeroy de Galhau said on Wednesday that the French economy remained “fairly resilient” and that growth in 2026 should reach “at least” 0.9%.

In an interview with French broadcaster TF1, Villeroy, who heads the Banque de France, said economic activity continued “to hold up”, a view supported by Q3 GDP figures.

“[T]he French economy is fairly resilient,” he said. “Credit, by the way, to the courage of entrepreneurs and the work of the French people.”

He noted that the Banque de France would update its growth projections in December and currently expected output to expand by “at least” 0.7% in 2025 and 0.9% in 2026.

Still, he cautioned that these were not “spectacular numbers” and that maintaining a sense of “realism” was important.
