By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel said on Saturday that the ECB could leave rates ‘broadly’ around current levels.

In an interview in the German podcast Table Today, Schnabel said that the ECB had ‘to maintain a steady hand for now.’

‘We can leave rates broadly at the level they are at now and are confident that we can also maintain price stability in this way’, she said.

Asked if the ECB should cut rates by 25bp in June, Schnabel said what would happen then remained to be seen.

Lower energy prices and a weaker economy would be disinflationary in the short term, but turn out to be inflationary in the medium term, she said.
