By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – The European Central Bank may have considered it an inopportune moment to reach a monetary policy decision other than what financial markets were expecting, according to ECB Governing Council member Gaston Reinesch on Friday.

In an interview with Luxembourgish radio station RTL, Reinesch, who heads the Central Bank of Luxembourg, said, ‘It really is perhaps not the time to surprise the financial markets, because they already have enough problems to solve.’

‘And in that sense, it is not bad if the decision of the European Central Bank also goes in the direction of what was expected’, he continued. #Which also contributes to a certain stabilisation and a certain confidence in our monetary policy.’

Any day could bring some new development, he said, and amidst such high uncertainty, the ECB could only proceed on a meeting-by-meeting basis.
