ECB’s Wunsch: A Pause Should Be On the Table for April Meeting
27 March 2025

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Pierre Wunsch said on Thursday that the ECB should considering pausing interest rate cuts in its April meeting.
In an interview with CNBC, Wunsch, who heads the Belgian National Bank, said, ‘I’m not saying I’m pleading for a pause in April, but it’s certainly something that should be on the table.’
US tariffs could be inflationary and hit growth at the same time, according to Wunsch.
Tariffs would generate ‘a very difficult environment to navigate because if it’s pushing inflation up and growth down, then the question is whether we have to look through or not’, he said. ‘And this is going to be a difficult balancing act.’
