By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Gabriel Makhlouf said on Monday that he was cautious about how the ECB should proceed.

In comments to reporters in Dublin, Makhlouf, who heads the Central Bank of Ireland, said that ‘[w]e do need to be cautious about changes to our monetary policy stance where we're not yet at target, and when quite exceptional events are happening around the world which could have a direct effect on inflation.’

Therefore, he said he remained cautious about how to move forward.

Makhlouf refused to comment on the likelihood of another interest rate cut in the Governing Council meeting on April 17.
