ECB’s Lagarde: Threat From US to Be Regarded by Europe as ‘Wake-up Call’
22 January 2025

By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said on Wednesday that Europe had to act together after the election of Donald Trump as US president.
In a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Lagarde said she agreed that the election of Donald Trump should trigger a quick reaction from Europe.
‘We have to act together and we have to play not just defense, but be forward’, she urged.
Europe had to be ‘realistic’ about the moment it was facing and the threat from the US should be regarded as a ‘wake-up call’, she said.
‘We have the talent, we have the money and we have the ideas’, she said. ‘But in terms of actions and doing what is required we need the push and we need the shift.’
