ECB’s Vasle: October Rate Cut Would Not Imply Another in December
8 October 2024
By Marta Vilar – MADRID (Econostream) – European Central Bank Governing Council member Boštjan Vasle said on Tuesday that a potential rate cut by the ECB this month would not imply another such move in December.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Vasle said, ‘Even if the ECB happens to decide to lower rates next week, that wouldn’t automatically mean another cut is coming in December’.
A rate reduction in October was to be considered ‘an option’, according to Vasle.
Market expectations were not dictating the ECB’s decisions, but were ‘valuable information’ for policymakers to consider, he said.
It is clear where the ECB’s monetary policy is heading, he said, with the most important aspect now the ‘dynamic’ of monetary policy easing.
