ECB’s de Cos: Closer to the Finish, But Still Some Way to Go for Monetary Policy

By David Barwick – FRANKFURT (Econostream) – The European Central Bank’s monetary policy is not yet done, even if it is now closer to ending, ECB Governing Council member Pablo Hernández de Cos said Monday.

During the Q&A of an event at the International Affairs and Foreign Policy Institute in Madrid, de Cos, who heads Banco de España, noted that his view of the current state of monetary policy remained as in his speech of 22 May.

‘...we think that to achieve this inflation target of 2% in the medium term, we still have some way to go’, he reiterated on Monday. ‘We are probably closer to the end, but in any case, the assessment we make at this moment is that we still have some way to go.’
